Does anybody have some good alternate ideas to scrapbooking?

I have two kids, and with my first baby I was so faithful about Scrapbooking her pictures…now, I have another little boy and it’s so hard to keep up on it. I plan on having more kids too. I would like to have some ideas other than just boring photo albums, but something less complex and time consuming than Scrapbooking. Any ideas?
I meant alternative, not alternate.

Home videos are the best because you can always look back on them for a good time and good memory. Record them and have a chapter for every year of there life and then give them the movie you made with highlights of every year for there 18th birthday.

What are the best digital Scrapbooking sites?
The title says it all. Just curious which are the best digital Scrapbooking sites out there. I have seen some, but they are not that great in my opinion. I would really appreciate some suggestions of really great sites.

How do I start a scrapbooking business?

I would like to start a small Scrapbooking business in my town. There is already one store, but I would like to start one thats has more items for sell and where people can come to crop as well. What all do I need to do?

I think the first thing you would need to do is to work out a business plan and try to establish whether or not your town is big enough to support 2 Scrapbook businesses.

Consider whether the reason they do not stock what you deem to be enough items is that they are not making enough money to purchase more stock.

If you feel there is sufficient scope you will need to:

a) find suitable premises

b) consider refitting to suit your stock

c) purchase stock

d) consider if you are going to work alone or employ staff – if you are going to employ. you will have to check up on current employment legislation.

e) Consider all relevant health & safety legislation

f) take out appropriate public liability insurance in case some one has an accident on your premises.

g) make sure you have sufficient funding to continue in the business when trade is slow.

h) sort out a marketing plan – if people don’t know you’re there they won’t come.

i) establish an internet presence, either just to publicise the business or consider whether you want to sell over the internet.

j) if you have never run a business before check out tax rules, book keeping methods etc.

This is just a list of things which jump into my mind – there will be lots more ot consider but this should give you some food for thought.

If you decide this is too big a jump at present why not offer to run crops and classes in the existing scarp book shop. You could charge for the classes etc and the shop would benefit as it should result in more sales for them.

what can I do to regular office brads for scrapbooking?

I just bought 9 boxes of 100 gold brass office brads ($0.25 a box!) at walmart and am wondering what I can do to them to make them pretty for Scrapbooking??? they are just plain gold but I could not pass up the price.

Can I paint them with acryllic??? or does anyone else have any ideas?

You can attach just about anything to them with Glue Dots (sold in the Scrapbooking section). There is also a crystal lacquer type of product that Close To My Heart makes which can be mixed with ink to color the top any color you like, so you’re not stuck with gold-tone on every page.

I believe acryllic paint will work in the short term but for a longer solution be sure to rough up the top with a little sand paper (or manicure block). The paint I’ve found to work best is Making Memories. It seems to be most permenant.

What cutting machine for scrapbooking should I get?

I am doing some Scrapbooking (but not alot). I was told I should get a Cricut but they are expensive. I see they have a portable one and that they also have a machine called the Slice. Are any of these worth the price or is there something else?

I used to work at Michaels and I’d see a lot of hardcore scrapbookers getting Cricut machines and the cartridges. The Cricut machine is great if you do a ton of scrapbook and are very involved–it can do intricate cut outs in various sizes, as well as cut through paper and vinyl. There are a ton of cartridges available, but they are also expensive. It is a super nice machine that cuts out letters and picture-like things (ie. if you buy the Disney cartridge, it can cut out Mickey). However, I would not suggest paying the money for it if it is going to sit in your closet until you get around to using it once every two or three months. I don’t know about the small one.

The other option is die cutters, of which there are many options, like Sizzix, Cuttlebug, and Slice. These also require you to buy a machine (non electric, I believe) and dies. I’m not sure how they work.

There are also cheap cutters that work like hole punches except they punch out different shapes in different sizes instead of just a small circle. But they are bulky and you’d have to buy a lot of them in order to really get use unless you only wanted to make a bunch of three inch hearts.

All of these options are pretty costly if you want to do anything fancy. The Cricut machine is definitely the nicest option, then the die cutters, then the cheap hole-punch things. Sometimes Michaels has small versions of the hole-punch things in their dollar bin with shapes like hearts or squares.

If you don’t want to spend a lot of money, I think your option is to cut shapes out yourself.

I am a beginning scrapbooker and I don’t have a whole lot of supplies. What are some good gifts I can ask for for Christmas that aren’t very expensive but are very handy for Scrapbooking?

Ask for a gift card from Micheals. Michaels also has classes for beginner Scrapbooking. You can go online and see when the classes are. I think there are some suggestions for beginners. There you may find what you need to get started.

Do you think there is a market for professional Scrapbooking?
I’m toying with the idea of Scrapbooking for other people. Either – premade albums, or custom albums from start to finish (including organizing their photos and journaling).
Will people pay for this service? It can be pretty pricey. $125 to $175 for a 7×7 album. Up to $400 for a 12×12.

Well it might be tough to make a living – but might bring you some extra money. Soooo many people are doing this on their own now…it’s a hobby it seems every single one of my friends and family are doing…so many just do it themselves, and if they don’t?…they have a friend or family member who will (for free or for the cost of materials…I’ve had 3 made for me already – as gifts). Sooo, there might be some market for it – but I wouldn’t think a very large one. …but for a little side job – little extra money from time to time…that you might well do. Good luck to you.
