What are the best books for 9yr old boys?

My son is nine years old and he is the hardest person to get into a good book. Are there any suggestions out there that could help me get him into reading more?
Plus Im a scrapbooking Newbie, does anyone else out there scrapbook cause I have questions?

Look at the kinds of movies he likes. Most boys (and girls for that matter) love Harry Potter at that age and older. Also, if he likes Sci Fi, the Animorph series or the Goosebumps series are ok.
If he likes adventure, look into books by Will Hobbs or Gary Paulsen.
If he likes comedy, look for Louis Sachar.
If he’s into sports, look for Walter Dean Myers or Matt Christopher.
Other great authors are Christopher Paul Curtis and Margaret Peterson Haddix.
Hope this helps!

They’re harder to find, but the "Three Investigator" books are great. You should be able to find them at the library or on amazon. My son loved them.

Although I am 40 years older than your son, I dislike it when someone chooses a book for me. I am much more likely to read it if I have chosen it myself. Empower your son, take him to a place like Barnes & Nobles where they encourage browsing. Then turn him loose in the childrens section and just watch, if you observe closely you may discover much about your son that you didn’t realize before.

Since not all 9 year olds are created equal and since they have different reading and comprehension levels by allowing your son to choose he will gravitate to what works for him.

When I taught in public school, about 5 years ago, the Captain Underpants series was really popular with my students who were about your son’s age. The Magic Tree House series is really good, too. I would suggest the first couple of books in the Harry Potter series, that last few are really deep and dark, I’m a fan don’t get me wrong, but it’s clear the author is trying to appeal to an audience that is aging along with the books.

My 9 year old loves the Dave Pilke series of Underpants…it’s Scholastic approved and they are super funny…as long as they keep reading right?
